Lola explained us what women's life was like in the 50's. She told us that women had almost no rights, and that they could only go to school to learn how to be housewives. Quite the opposite, nowadays women go to college, get a degree, and get married later. About the way she talked, I think she is very fluent and clear when talking, so it's enjoyable to listen to her. Also she was confident about her point of view (she was assertive), which is great to take her idea in better and more easily.

Juanma´s speech by Thomas
I think that Juan had a great idea to
make his oral speech. We had to talk about the situation of women in the
fifties and compare it with our reality. He thought of talking about a
commercial of an important company of cleaning articles that only shows a woman doing the housework and it never shows a man doing it. So modern commercial of our days show the social thinking that we had: The woman is
cleaning in the house and the man is going to work. We have to change it and
Juan showed us that problem.

Lola's speech by Aldana
Lola talked about the education in the 50's. She said that girls went to school with girls only, and that for women having a degree wasn't important, they only wanted to get married, and they were expected to do the housework. Also she said things changed, and I agree with that. For example, nowadays schools are for girls and boys, and women want to have a degree too, they don't do the housework only.
Antonella's speech by Belén
Antonella's speech was very well argumented. The commercial she chose to explain the way women used to be like years ago was perfect to help her to explain her points and gave her a good argument (her ideas were well supported). Also, she didn´t hesitated when she had to speak (she was assertive), she spoke calmly and clearly so it was easy to follow her ideas.

Clung to thoughts
Mona Lisa is an American film directed by Mike Newell. This movie takes place in 1953, a period of time when women had a "default role" in society and that thought was very strict and fixed. Can you imagine that?
Katherine Watson (Julia Roberts) moved from California to Wellesley University to teach Art History. This free-thinking professor teaches conservative Wellesley girls to question their traditional social roles, because she wanted these girls to continue studying at university and graduate before getting married, having family and giving up on their studies or dreams.
I think that this movie is very interesting because it shows the thinking of that time and you can compare it to current days. I really recommend this movie to teenagers and adults because it is very interesting and catchy.

Change the way of thinking
Have you ever seen this film? It tries to represent the education of women in the 50s and it is clear that they couldn't decide for themselves but that can change...
Katherine Watson (Julia Roberts) moved from California to Wellesley University because she wanted to teach art history but she had differents thinking on the future of her students and the University didn't like it. She didn't want the girls stopped study what they wanted after getting married, so she decided to help them. (87)
I think that women in the past were afraid so they preferred not to change the rules and custom of the society. Fortunately, there were women who had the courage to make a difference and that is what the movie tries to show: the value of the teacher.

Mona Lisa Smile (Tomas)
Mona Lisa Smile is a drama film created in 2003. It was directed by Mike Newell and produced by Fredward Johanson.
This film is about the Woman's education in the 50s and how they were supposed to finish their studies, get married and work as a housewife. But this changed when Katherine Watson, an art teacher, moved to Wellesley College. She tried to change girl's mind teaching them that they didn't need to leave their studies to be housewife. They could be both of them.
In my opinion, the end is the best part of the film because Katherine discover that Julia, the girl that she thought would apply to Yale Law School, got married and wanted to be a housewife. And Betty, the most conservative girl of the class, dedicate one of her editorials to Katherine.
It's a very interesting movie that you should watch!

belen's article (mona lisa smile)
Nowadays, women lifestyle have got
less difficult than it was before: they don´t have to stay at home doing the
housework all day, they can work as whatever they want and even participate in
social and political life. Women have been being manipulated by society for
many ages, from what they have supposed to be to how they were supposed to
manner. Even though this way of thinking has changed at present (or most of it),
was women life as easy as it appear just a few years ago?
In the 50’s,
women’s life appeared to be perfect: perfect studies, perfect husband, perfect
house, perfect family. However, perfection wasn´t as easy to get, because their
personal lives were on game. They have to decide between get the perfect family
or continue studying to get a good job (because they couldn’t do both). This lifestyle
that women have carried thought this times can be seen on the actual movie “Mona
Lisa smile”, in which it´s told the story of a woman that wanted to go against
the ideology of that moment and make a real change in women life. This film
shows how hard was women’s life, how they had to give up everything to could
marry and start a family and how their own minds were so closed. Only one of
them (the main character) opened her mind to new ideas, new points of view, to
a new lifestyle cut off from the housewife life. In my opinion, this movie
helps you to understand how different and yet so equal was and is women’s life
and that the only wayto make change is thinking outside the box.

A different way of thinking
Mona Lisa Smile is an American film directed by Mike Newell. This film takes place in 1953, a period of time which women didn´t have the opportunity to decide for themselves. Have you ever saw this amazing film?
Katherine Watson moved from California to Weslley University to teach Art History. In the post-war period, she expected her students to study and graduate, not to get married and leave their studies. So she wanted to make them understand the importance of that.
At the beginning, I thought it was boring but then, I understood how those girls think, and how important was to get married in the 50s. However, I really enjoy watching Mona Lisa Smile.

Buenos Aires (Antonella)
Safety
Even though Buenos Aires is a fascinating city, it's not that safe. A lot of people that live here say that street crime is a really important problem, so you should be careful, most of all, in the touristic areas like La Boca-Caminito, both day and night.
Getting around.
I don't think that renting a car is a good idea, because there's a lot of traffic so you will spend more time driving to the place you want to go than enjoying being there. So my reccomendation is to take the underground, you get faster than in any public transport. Also you have taxis, but they are too expensive, I don't think that's an option.
Food and drink
If you come to Argentina, you must try Dulce de leche, it's like a jam but sweeter. You also have our meat, which people that visit us say it's the best. You should try barbecue. I don't think there's something you should avoid, but it depends on your tastes.
In my opinion, it's a wonderful city that is worth visiting.

Buenos Aires (Greta)
Safety:
Although Buenos Aires is a beautiful city, it is not safe at all, most of people think they should avoid the poor neigborhoods, but I think the most dangerous neighborhoods are the touristic ones, you have to be careful if they see you are a tourist, and pay attention.
Getting around:
Buenos Aires is a big city, and there are a lot of people, so maybe the car is not always the best choice.
I love travelling by subway because it is very fast, and it takes you to most of the main points in the city. I don't recommend taking a taxi because it is really expensive and maybe you arrive faster by train or bus, but if you come back from shopping, and you have a lot of bags maybe you can get one.
Food and Drink
If you want a city where the food is an important protagonist, Buenos Aires is an amazing city for you, because the food is excellent.
You can drink the local tap water in most of the places, but you'd better ask first.
You can't leave BsAs without having Dulce de leche, it is a kind of jam. Also in Argentina you will have the best Asado ever, that is like a barbecue, but better, and what makes it unique is the chimichurri.
I think BsAs is an amazing city and I've met a lot of tourists who loved it, so you should come.

Buenos Aires- Lola
Buenos Aires is one of the 24 provinces in our country
Argentina. It is one of the most visited cities in the world. There are a lot of tourists
everyday downtown.
We have a famous bridge called “El Puente de la Mujer” in
Puerto Madero, the Obelisc, which is one of the most important monuments in our
city and so many more. We have a lot of provincial neighbourghoods, as well, in case you want to take a rest from the busy city centre.
In Buenos Aires, there are too many museums, as this city is
also quite historic. From my point of view there is a lot of pollution
because of the people who live here, who do not care about the city.
In my opinion the city is overcrowded but I still like it
this way.

Juan's speech by Aldana
Juan's speech was very complete and informative. Also it is a common interesting speech, because it is something that the Papa said.
And about Juan, he should have acted it a bit more, because as I said, it is an important speech. However, it was very well and I like the speech he has chosen.

Buenos Aires- Belén
. Buenos Aires is one of the biggest, most beautiful and vibrant cities in the world. It's known that Buenos Aires is full of life and energy, especially at night when the whole city wakes up and shows the wonderful things it has. As a big city, it has a lot of landmarks tourists should visit before leaving, like Puerto Madero´s harbour, the biggest main avenue (located in teh district) where the Obelisk is, Palermo´s parks, San Telmo´s pedestrian streets and many other charming places full of Argentinean culture. However, this city does not only exhibit our national culture, but a lot of foreign cultures, because it´s a very cosmopolitan city.
Pedestrian
streets, shopping malls, the harbour, the law court and the squares are very common
places to visit. However, it is not very easy to go to many of them. Buses or the underground are very useful means of transport to get around, but they are often
very crowded. If you don´t want to wait too much or travel uncomfortably, the
best option is to get to a taxi rank, but it isn´t the cheapest way to travel. In many
places of the city there are stands where you can rent a bicycle and use it the
whole day. So, if you are a healthy person and you don´t want to waste too much
money, cycle lanes are a perfect way to get around.
Typical food is
something that the tourist cannot ignore. There are many places in the city
where you can have some common food like asado, empanadas or even mate. If you
go to Buenos Aires, don´t forget to taste the incredible food or see our most typical
dances (like tango).
To sum up, Buenos
Aires is the best choice if you want a vibrant journey, because its essence and
magic make the whole city a perfect place to visit.
Describing my city
I
live in the capital city of Argentina, It´s known that it´s a cosmopolitan
city because a lot of different cultures can be found here. And the reason of
that is the European migration that took place in Buenos Aires some decades
ago. That´s why the people think that our city is the middle point between
Latin America and Europe.
Also,
it has an historic and commercial centre. But it has a lot of slums around
it,which are on the outskirts beyond an Avenue that divides the capital
city from these places, called General Paz.
The capital city is divided in other neighborhoods. I live in Villa Pueyrredón. It´s not like the town centre, It´s more provincial. But I like it because there´s not a lot of traffic or people movement, so it is quieter than downtown.

Safety:
You should be careful with your wallet, your backpack or any appliance like mobile phones,a tablet, cameras, etc. because there are a lots of robbers. Try not to be near beggars or in slums at night. However, if you have a problem, you can talk with a police man.
Getting around:
You have some options to get around the city. For example you have: taxis, buses -for exmaple, the metrobus-, the underground, or trains. In my opinion the best option is the underground because it is the fastest one and it is not expensive, but if you prefer to be comfortable the best option is a taxi.
Food and drink:
There is some food that you must try, for example you have to taste torta frita, empanadas, alfajores and dulce de leche. These are a good choice as snacks, and my advice is that you drink mate with this food in any square or park with your family o friends.

The best way to get around the city is by underground. It's OK if you want to take a taxi but it is more expensive.
You can also hire a bicycle and I think that it's a good city for cycling because there are a lot of cycle lanes.

If you're short of time, you should travel around Puerto Madero, La Boca and Palermo, where there are lots of things to do! And if you like visiting museums you had better go to the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes and to the Museo Historico de Buenos Aires Cornelio Saavedra.
